Programs
Educational Enrichment
Services/Jefferson Community College is a program offering free
refresher courses in reading, writing, and math to students entering
college whose entrance exam scores fall below the minimum. Classes are
located at Jefferson Community college Downtown/Southwest and Spalding
University. KPAW The Kentucky Paraeducator Assessment Workshop prepares those wanting to work as a teacher assistant with Jefferson County Public Schools. Call 485-7400 or 485-7101. Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) Partnership Police recruits are offered assessment and fast-track writing workshops to meet pre-employment requirements. Contact Heather Morrow at 485-3337. MED-Ed MED-Ed is a medical transcription course located at Ahrens Learning Center. Contact Jeannie Gough at Community Action Partnership at 574-1157. Project ACHIEVE Project ACHIEVE is an office technology course with job placement as a goal. It is located at Ahrens Learning Center. Contact Jeannie Gough at Community Action Agency at 574-1157. READKY READKY, funded with a CCLD grant, offers a highly structured reading program for adults through YouthBuild Kentucky located at 800 West Chestnut Street in downtown Louisville. Students learn through teacher instruction and Lexia, a technology-based program by Orton Gillingham. Parking is free and bus tokens are available to students at no cost. Contact Martha Ruth Van Cleave at 485-3400. SAIL Program A partnership with The Salvation Army, this program provides literacy instruction for individuals who have difficulty with written language. SKILLBUILD This program provides training and instruction at the Department of Employment Services for anyone needing math, resume-writing, computer training, or remediation. Contact Marylyn Vincent at 485-7022. Y.O.U. Youth Opportunities Unlimited is a customer-centered one-stop employment and skills development center. YOU offers employment and educational services to enhance young job seekers’ academic and job readiness skills. Funded by KentuckianaWorks, YOU serves out-of-school, at-risk youth between the ages of 16 and 21. Contact Lorena Lasky at 213 2629. |
